Week 1 - Sunshine and Rainbows

It’s week one so we were very much on track and on board.

Sunday afternoon, we went up to the office, connected to our second monitor, pulled up our SoFi Relay, where all of our accounts are connected to see what we spent (outside of our fixed costs). $50 of our $300. Brad is training for a half ironman (crazy!) and needed some swimming goggles and when he checked out, I had a bottle of nail polish in the Amazon cart. $50 in total.

This has also helped us to add another parameter to our weekly budgeting, and guardrails for this project. We will only checkout from Amazon once a week. We will review the cart at the end of the week and buy the things that we still think we want/need by Sunday. That way, we avoid the many Amazon packages showing up, because it’s just so easy to check out with $10 purchases too often.

Result on Week 1 - Did not go out to eat and spent very minimal on extraneous things. I wouldn’t have purchased the nail polish had I reviewed at the end of the week, but it did help us to see this area where it is easy to overspend.

That said, life happens, and part of the reason that we are doing this is to spend on things that matter. So, this weekend, our dear friends are coming into town to visit us from Pennsylvania. We will be spending some money going out to eat and the like with them. This will not be a “bad” week. It will just have more spending than the previous week did.
