Week 2 - Going Strong

Sadly, we mentioned that we’d have friends visiting this week but they ended up with a sick child and couldn’t visit. Therefore, our week of spending was significantly less than it would have been.

For week 2, we opened our wallets 2 times. One was for a car wash that was needed and also took the cost of our fill up down to $2.99 per gallon. We also spent $21 on a mid-week stop at the grocery but I still consider this a win, because we bought frozen pizzas (instead of picking up food or going out). We did pick up ice cream also (ok, now I feel like I’m confessing our diet indiscretions also!)

For Brad, doing this challenge has really got him thinking about some of the ways he works with people to increase motivation, access abilities to do these things, and the power of having prompts and accountability partners when working toward a financial goal.

For Katie, I can’t help but think about how incredibly lucky and privileged we are to have the opportunity to do this because we WANT to and not because we have to. I have probably changed my behavior several times this week when I might have added something additional to a grocery order (like kombucha because it was on sale) but wasn’t even really craving it or would have stopped for a coffee a couple of times - out of habit not because it was something that was going to be a special treat or with a friend or family member. Again, this is not meant to be a punishment but to continue to hone our ability to put off something small now for a big payoff later.

Grocery mid-week $21 - still less expensive than take-out would have been!
